Yoga to Lose Weight - What Are Your Options?
Can Yoga Help You Lose Weight naturally? While some of us prefer physical activities such as running or aerobics for weight loss, others might lean more towards yoga. There are many benefits to yoga, and the best thing about it is that it can be done by all kinds of people. However, the difficulty is there is always quite a bit of doubt when it comes to actually doing yoga to lose weight effectively.
So what is yoga to help you burn off calories? There are actually several ways yoga can help you lose weight and keep it off. For one thing, yoga can increase your flexibility and your body awareness. It also increases your awareness of your breathing and the connection between these two elements. Many times, just taking deep slow breaths will help burn off a lot of calories, especially if you are eating an hour before or after exercising. By using this technique, you can get a much better workout at the same time.
Different yoga classes offer various types of yoga as well as modifications to help you burn more calories. There are power yoga classes, yoga for beginners, and more. There are also prenatal yoga classes, which help women who are pregnant. And, there are sun salutations for those who want to experience the calming effects of yoga on the sun and the warmth of the summer.
One yoga class offered is called Ashtanga Yoga or sun salutation. It is led by Dr. Satyaath A. Subhash, and the teacher says alessandra, "The basic idea behind Ashtanga Yoga is that you keep moving and changing the positions of the poses so that you become more flexible in all the various poses. The arms are the most flexible part of the body. So we keep moving the arms in all the Asana so that we can stretch them out."
According to the study, the poses are supposed to help you relax the muscles. The arms get very tired when you rest in one position for a long time. "So by practicing yoga for weight loss you not only keep the arms strong but also the entire body," says alessandra. This type of restorative yoga has been shown to be good for both reducing excess weight and getting more toned up.
Dr. Subhash believes that there should be less of a stress on the lower back and that yoga practice will help reduce it. The study says that the yogis in India are living longer than others because they take a very active approach to their lives. "They have strong physical fitness, but they are very calm and centered," said alessandra. "A typical well-fit person is stressed out and not as relaxed and centered as a yogi."
The study also looked at postures in terms of easing joint pain and increasing flexibility. Specifically, it looked at hatha yoga, a form of exercise considered as an ideal way to achieve personal balance and well-being. In this form of yoga, you use several different postures (helps you work your muscles); however, you do them very slowly. The slow-motion postures allow more circulation in the body and increase mobility. By doing so, it helps to relieve joint pain and decrease the risk of a number of musculoskeletal disorders such as osteoarthritis.
While you may find that doing yoga to achieve weight loss is easy, you need to remember that you will need to think about what you are doing. The postures are designed to keep your body in motion, so you need to focus on breathing deeply, relaxing, stretching, then repeating. You must practice mindful movement if you want to experience the health benefits of this form of exercise. If you don't think you can be mindful enough to exercise without thinking about it, you may find that it isn't for you.
